The Chicago Cubs have signed free agent OF Ben DeLuzio to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

DeLuzio (28), was picked up by the St. Louis Cardinals in last season’s minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft, after six seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league system.

DeLuzio had a solid season for the Cardinals Triple-A affiliate Memphis Redbirds (.277/.353/.429 slashline, career high 9 HR & 30 SB). This earned him a September call-up for both his speed & defense.

For St. Louis last season, he appeared in 22 games, slashed .150/.292/.200 with 3 hits in 20 at-bats. He was left on the Cardinals playoff roster but was eventually non-tendered at season’s end.
