It's official!

Adam Wainwright will be making his 6th Home Opener start, passing Bob Gibson (5).

This will also be Waino's 7th Opening Day start for the Cardinals. He trails only Bob Gibson (10) in Opening Day starts.

Adam takes the helm as Jack Flaherty (2021’s Opening Day starter) is dealing with a shoulder issue that temporarily has him out of action. Wainwright led the Cardinals pitching staff last season with injuries to Flaherty, Mikolas, Hudson & Kim, with “Uncle Charlie” pitching 206 1/3 innings over 32 starts. He had a 17-7 record, 3.05 ERA with 174 strikeouts.

At 40-years young, Wainwright has not officially announced that 2022 will be his last season, although with Albert Pujols & Yadier Molina having said this would be their last, one would assume this will be it for #50.

Waino & Yadi are just 20 games shy of passing the most games between pitcher & catcher, doing so with one team, to become the greatest battery in baseball history.

Opening Day is always a special day for Cardinals fans, but this year’s will be even more special with Wainwright making his first Opening Day start since 2016 and possibly his last.

Buckle up, Cardinals Nation. 2022 is going to be one for the ages.
