Skip Schumaker hired as new Miami Marlins manager

Last week, reports were that St. Louis Cardinals bench coach Skip Schumaker was being interviewed for the Miami Marlins managerial vacancy. It’s now being reported that Schumaker went from finalist to earning the job.
Craig Mish of Sportsgrid & Miami Herald, who covers the Marlins, took to Twitter stating that Marlins GM Kim Ng “got her guy.” He went on to say “From the first interview Schumaker was a finalist. His interviews blew everyone away. Should be fun in Jupiter with Skip on the other side of the complex.”

Mish, as well as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic & Jon Heyman of the New York Post all reported the news of the hiring.
Schumaker takes over the role, as Don Mattingly agreed to step down as Marlins manager following a 69-93 record in 2022 with Miami missing the playoffs for the 10th of past 11 seasons.
Skip’s one-year stint as Cardinals bench coach last season was a memorable one as he coached former World Series champion teammates Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina & Adam Wainwright that he began his career with.
Prior to coming back to St. Louis, Schumaker had multiple roles with the San Diego Padres organization and now gets his first crack at becoming a MLB manager. We wish Skip all the best on this well deserved opportunity
